Via the Barcamp Orlando Mailing List, Gregg Pollack announces that we will have a planning meeting for Directors at the Florida Creative’s Happy Hour at Crooked Bayou located in downtown Orlando.

So I get there and quickly find myself talking to Gregg about Barcamp and he gives everyone flyers to pass out. I meet a few more people at the table and do not remember to much as the DJ is playing music and was making it difficult to hear.

I do remember talking to Ryan Price of Florida Creative’s and I told him about my Tech Association in Orlando concept and he tells me about his Florida Creative’s concept and that he is pretty much doing the same thing.

I gave him my ideas, like creating a website that listed all the members profiles and what they did so that they can be found via search engines or by other companies looking for them by browsing via their industry. Also a place on the site for listing every single tech event in town in one location. He tells me that he disagrees with that concept and that he does not want to deal with everyone’s information.

He also told me that he has a problem with finding people with the same passion. He told me that he had someone that was excited about building him a site and that person was supposed to be there that night, but did not show. He also tells me that he wants a site built in the vision in which he wants it.

He goes on to tell me that if I would like to get involved that I can go to his site and sign up and he will add me to the admin list or something like that. I was getting into and was almost ready to signup to help, but I found myself not exactly 100% committed.

My problem with his organization and anyone else’s for that matter is that the entity has been created and unofficially formed; I wanted to help create something bigger. Something new, an entity owned by the people, voted by the people and that involved an entire industry, not just the creative’s.

So, after a couple of hours I head home full of passion for the Tech Association concept again.
