Barcamp Orlando 08 Planning Party
Now we come to the next Barcamp Orlando Planning Meeting on January 14th, 2008.
Again this year I came early, since I came all the way from the Heathrow Lake Mary area down 417. I chit chat briefly to Gregg and his wife about little stuff I cannot remember.
Once again I also talked to Larry Diehl and learn that PayPerPost is now Izea and that they have the same Google type philosophy where he works on company projects for so many hours and then is allowed to work on anything he wants for so many hours, but the company owns whatever he works on. He also tells me that he has the opportunity to present it to the company and if the company adopts it, then it can become the company project. (Please always keep in mind that this is what I remember I may have misunderstood Larry). He also tells me that he cannot work on any outside projects. This makes sense to some degree as a business owner, but as an employee of my own company, that sucks!
I spoke with Gregg about the idea of splitting up the work amongst volunteer directors to make it easier on him. I also told him that I was going to volunteer and help him in any way possible instead of sponsoring. After all we would hate for the organizer to get so burnt out on Barcamp that he no longer wants to do it anymore and it dies!
Most of the time, you would of found me talking about the need for something more and possibly putting together a Tech Association. Which seemed to go in one ear and out the other, but I was at a Barcamp Orlando Planning party, not a “Hey let’s do what I want to do” planning party.
