Barcamp Orlando 08 Media Day

Day 2 of Barcamp Orlando started slow, either everyone was hung over from the Izea party at church or something because we did not have a large turnout initially. Ryan Price had to put together a quick presentation on request. By 12:00 the board was still pretty light with presentations, so I decided to post a talk on Search Engine Optimization.

By the time lunch came around the event had picked up; I guess people decided to come for free lunch but it was raining pretty hard. Luckily I had learned my lesson from the day before and I was in line early. My employee Pia and joined me by that time and we ate lunch with 2 other business owners, a programmer and a graphic designer.

Anyways, I thought my presentation went well; I even had a competitor sitting in the audience that was prepared to bash me if it wasn’t for the fact that I really know what I am talking about in regards to search engines. I was even lucky enough to use them as an example in presentation for reporting a competitor to Google who attempts to take advantage of the search engines to gain higher rankings over you.

The last discussion of the day was by Ryan Price and it was about creating a secret hand shake amongst other techs in Central Florida. It was more of a philosophy really. He made the mistake of letting others on the stage because it went to a discussion about Refresh Orlando and then ended with a discussion about creating a Tech Association in Central Florida.

I got on the stage and told the room about going to the Izea party and talking to Tara about an association (Please see this post “Barcamp Orlando 08 IZEA Geek Out After Party”). I told everyone that if you do not get involved then the people that are involved will do it the way that they want to do it.

I told them that we have the opportunity that if Tara from MindComet has the resources to facilitate a Tech Association that we should take advantage of their passion and their resources.

Then we packed up all the chairs in the rain and spent an hour talking about various things outside.

Stop talking about BarCamp. Your tag cloud is messing up your layout.
